Transparency

While the amount of scientific and governance-related information about climate engineering has been steadily increasing, there remains a lack of public and policy-relevant information on climate engineering. Much of the information about current research activities is highly dispersed, or is contained in forms that are directed towards experts. The gap in public information has allowed misinformation about climate engineering to circulate, further complicating public discourse on climate engineering.

Wise governance requires that research and decisions about possible deployment must be as transparent as possible. Transparency involves intentionally sharing information so all interested parties can understand and otherwise develop capability to participate in decision-making surrounding SRM.  Transparency is essential to serve both as a check against ill-conceived or narrow-minded trajectories and as a mechanism for building and enhancing the climate engineering governance community.
